Langston Hughes made this poem with a mother as the narrorater. This poem really makes you think about hard times and how hard it was for people. This poem also makes  you think about the people that got through it and how they are setting a good example for our generation.             This poem is about a mother telling her son all of the struggle she has been through. She also explains to her son how she got through it and how hard it was for her to do that. The mother in the poem tells her son that he is strong too and that he can do the same thing she did. She tells her son "dont you fall now" ,she is telling her son not to give up and to keep going at it just like her.
At first i thought this poem was about a former slave because the mother is saying "its had tracks and splinters and boarders torn up, and places with no carpet on the floor" since slaves slept in cabins with wooden floors i thought she was a slave. But then i finished reading the poem and it said (1922) and i know that is the time of the great depresion so i realised what the poem was really about.
